Filipino History Lesson

Today, we went to the high school history class, taught by Mr. Smith. Today, they were talking about when the Philippines got free from Spain, but got taken by America. The Filippinos did not want this, so they fought with the Americans. Their style of fighting was guerrilla warefare, not really having an organized amry. Filippinos could not use real weapons, because their oppressors would not allow them to. Their style was Arnis, which had to be taught quickly, unlike other styles like Kung Fu or such. So, today, the students got to experience this fighting style. They got to "stickes" to use. They were lined up on the basketball court, ready to fight. Mr. Smith was talking about how to fight properly, such as how to hold it, how to strike, or how to twist it around.
I really thought it was cool to watch them try it out. I learned something new about Filippino history. In my history class, we are studying US history. I think its cool to learn about different things in History from different nations, so that we know and understand other peoples culture as well as how their mind is set up, because I'm sure it's different from my own, partly because of where I'm from.
